She loves Pirates of the Caribbean, hey I know she is only 4 but it didn’t scare her at all…just gave her MORE reason to run around saying “Arrrr” and “Ahoy there mateys!”
The other day I posted on Facebook about her playing with her Barbie car and the pirates..it sounded something like this..
“Hey pirates, want to go for a ride in my Barbie car” (pirates) “sure!” (Barbie) “great! We can go on an adventure!” P- “can we bring our swords”? B- “no, but you can bring your hats” …at this point I was standing in the door way watching her play..as soon as the pirates get all settled in the car, BOOM…Barbie loses it and kicks everyone out and off she goes. I am thinking to myself “well that figures, typical Barbie move, but odd for my pirate minded daughter.”
So a little later I go in there to clean up and she is off in some other part of the house tearing things up, when I see Barbie half under the couch and all the pirates piled into the Barbie car. Now THAT is more like my girl!
She has pirate figures but prefers to use her knights on board her ship, not really sure why…but they like to shoot cannons at the pirates in the little boats off to the side.
She has two pirate ships and it is quite entertaining to watch her play pirates with her dad. As tomboyish as my little girl is, she is still very sensitive, and very much a girl.
She asks her dad to play battle with her, so he complies by playing like any boy would (yes, it is like having two kids in the house) and he starts shooting her ship with cannons and ramming her ship with his…she immediately starts yelling and saying “no daddy! That is NOT how you play!” but all to no avail as he turns her ship upside down and shakes all her knights out and proclaims ‘I sank your ship!’
She sits there for a minute, and I see her eyes well up, then she is up and running to me crying full out..”mommy! Daddy sank my battle ship!” (which of course sent me into a fit of giggles…I know…I am weird like that, odd things make me giggle) BUT she was crying as if her heart was broken, and as I tried to explain to her, that if you want to play pirate and battle ship with boys you have toughen up, go back and sink daddies ship! I couldn’t help but worry about my sensitive little girl who always wants to play sword fight and battles, but was too tenderhearted to actually hurt anyone, or for that matter see anyone else hurt..
Oh my little girl….I will never get tired of watching you play and imagine….you go about it like no other child I have ever seen…but you do NOT lack for imagination.
I want you to stay like that forever.
and so because it fits in with the pirate theme…..and because I love this joke and never pass up an opportunity to tell it…I will leave you with this ...
A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel stuffed in the front of his pants.
The Bartender, seeing this asks him “what’s up with the steering wheel in your pants? Isn’t that uncomfortable?”
To which the pirate replies….
ARRRRRR! It’s driving me nuts!!!!
