Birthday Surprise

my birthday loot
So on the 26th I turned 40. Yes 40. No I didn't mind at all, no I don't think I am old now or that my life is half over...really it wasn't a whole lot different then turning 30.

But the important part of my turning 40 was that besides the gift of the D90 camera which is well above and beyond what I expected, my husband (with the help of my best friend) arranged a surprise birthday dinner for me.

Everyone had been asking me the whole month long what I was going to do for my birthday, but I didn't really feel like going out to the bar, logistically going to the bar for us is an undertaking, we have a long drive home, one of us has to be sober..blah blah blah. I just didn't feel like it. So long story short, we decided we would just go out to lunch and then do what every came to us the rest of the day and evening.(we meaning Bill and I)

Fast forward to the day of my birthday. We go across the street and watch one of our friends little boy play basketball then we were supposed to go out to lunch and drop Kyra off at her Grandma and Grandpas around 3:00 or so. But Bill was putzing around and saying he didn't want to rush right out to lunch. Now, if you know my husband you know this is NOT like him at all. He is go go go all the time, we are usually up and out of the house no later then 9 or 10 o'clock on the weekends. This whole loafing around was killing me. I was hungry and I wanted to go now, not 2 hours from now.
FINALLY he says okay, I am ready lets go, but first I want to stop and wash the salt off the truck. Really? NOW you want to do that? But I didn't question because the truck really was covered in salt. Then when I mentioned off hand that I had a coupon for a free beverage at the local coffee shop because it was my birthday he offered to stop there first. This made me kind of suspicious also...but I blew it off ( I mean I was getting a free latte...who cares what he was up to).
Finally we get to the restaurant and it is BUSY! He hates waiting and I know this, before I even say anything he turns to me and says "there is a 10 minute wait here, lets go next door". Um no. Immediately I say "NO I want to eat here! we are not going anywhere". (keep in mind I NEVER get to chose where we eat and we never eat at my favorite restaurant unless it's my birthday.)
We get to the hostess station and he leans over to give them his name and right away she says "oh we have you right here..come this way"   WHAT? I look over and there is a table of friends all waiting for me..including my best friend and her husband and daughter who live 175 miles away from us. I was stunned, then almost in tears. I rushed right over and gave her a hug. I was so glad to see her, I felt bad that I pretty much bypassed everyone en route to get to her. Of course she had her camera and I remember not giving her much of a chance to put it down before grabbing her for a hug, but I know she got a picture of the expression on my face.
The rest of the dinner was great. It went pretty fast but it was wonderful just spending a little time with my friends all together for the most part.
We also had birthday cake, which Bill (once again with the help of my best friend) had arranged to be picked up and brought to the restaurant where they kept it in the cooler until it was time to bring it out.
Everyone sang happy birthday and all the kids helped me blow out the candles and open my presents.
It was great.  I feel very  blessed that my husband and friends cared about me enough to go to all the trouble involved to surprise me and wish me happy birthday,
THEY are wonderful..all of them.
Happy Birthday to me.
